Updates

Posted by lavzz on April 25, 2009

Have not had a lot of time to post so am just going to give bullet point updates about the latest stuff going on with premat etc.

1. My financial aid decision has come. HBS has given me a  generous fellowship and this makes my loan amount completely manageable instead of tending closer to the monstrous 1 Cr. INR that I thought it would.

2. My I-20 has arrived at my permanent address following my fin aid decision. Have asked my folks to courier it to me ASAP.

3. ACC 200 unfortunately seems to be lost in translation. The mid term packet that had to come to my proctor has been stuck in the mail for the last 2 weeks. Should call up/inform BYU.

4. Am putting in my papers here on 15th May. Should give me around 1 and a half months in Hyd for the first time in 7 years.

5. Have filled an application for a dorm room at HBS. I hope I get a room. They are subject to availability therefore keeping my fingers crossed. Have also filled up an apartment application just in case the dorm thingy does not work out.

That more or less covers the happenings since the last post I guess. And yes, I have made it through IIMB :) My dream finally comes true though is going to remain unfulfilled.

IIMB i/v update

Posted by lavzz on February 22, 2009

So,

20th Feb saw me going to the IIMB campus in Bangalore. I should mention that the campus which i had always dreamed about attending right from my 2nd year at college more than lived upto my imagaination. Covered well by trees and made of exquisite stone, it looked as majestic as it looked old.

The GD went quite well. The topic was “did the media have a class dimension to it during the mumbai 26/11 attacks as they focused more on the Taj than they did on the common man’s CST? ” It was good overall with everyone getting a chance to speak but I felt the group went out of relevance a couple of times by talking about the mangalore pub incident when it was totally not needed.

The interview was pretty normal. No mechanical Engg. questions thankfully and pretty much focussed on my work ex which made it very easy for me. The best part of the interview that I liked was when the prof told me why I wanted an MBA now when all I had to do was to work for a couple of years more and my company would sponser me for HBS. I almost spilled the beans about H-bomb :)

Met my friend A from IIMB.  She said things were really grim wtih the placement scene right now and the IIMs are not insulated either. Here is wishing that she nets a great job. I am sure she will.

Meanwhile, have submitted my financial aid documents to HBS. so keeping fingers crossed for that.  Plan for next week is to complete registering for finance and accounting courses and look through the HBS health services form that I am to complete.
