IIMB i/v update

Posted by lavzz on February 22, 2009

So,

20th Feb saw me going to the IIMB campus in Bangalore. I should mention that the campus which i had always dreamed about attending right from my 2nd year at college more than lived upto my imagaination. Covered well by trees and made of exquisite stone, it looked as majestic as it looked old.

The GD went quite well. The topic was “did the media have a class dimension to it during the mumbai 26/11 attacks as they focused more on the Taj than they did on the common man’s CST? ” It was good overall with everyone getting a chance to speak but I felt the group went out of relevance a couple of times by talking about the mangalore pub incident when it was totally not needed.

The interview was pretty normal. No mechanical Engg. questions thankfully and pretty much focussed on my work ex which made it very easy for me. The best part of the interview that I liked was when the prof told me why I wanted an MBA now when all I had to do was to work for a couple of years more and my company would sponser me for HBS. I almost spilled the beans about H-bomb :)

Met my friend A from IIMB.  She said things were really grim wtih the placement scene right now and the IIMs are not insulated either. Here is wishing that she nets a great job. I am sure she will.

Meanwhile, have submitted my financial aid documents to HBS. so keeping fingers crossed for that.  Plan for next week is to complete registering for finance and accounting courses and look through the HBS health services form that I am to complete.

Pre-matriculation

Posted by lavzz on February 9, 2009

The HBS pre-matriculation website has a million things that I have to complete before I am school-ready in August. All the employment verification,  medical and academic transcript submission aside, it says that I have to take additional course work in both Accounting and Finance before matriculating as I am what it has labeled as ‘non- traditional MBA’. Hunting for courses in India suiting its needs seem to be filling up most of my time these days.

That aside, I am considering quitting in June, so that gives me another 5 months to go at work :(

Currently reading the HBS survival guide for the class of 2011. Extremely well written book. Hats off to the student association. They really go the extra mile to make the new admits comfortable about the school.

And ya, my IIMB interview is scheduled on 20th of Feb. Should study something. hopefully, i wont get too arrogant and utter the H-bomb in front of them (apparently, according to the survival guide, HBS students call the school the H-bomb :P )

Admitted to HBS

Posted by lavzz on February 4, 2009

I know, that the actual results came almost 10 days back. I should confess that it has taken so long for it to sink in. For about the first one week, Iwould just shake my head in disbelief and tell myself that its not possible. After that I started thinking of all that I have gone through in the last 2.5 years, and the things that I have done and then I would tell myself  “of course you deserve it”.

In conclusion, I would like to add this- it is not about numbers, it is not about your resume, it is not about what you do. Its only about who you are and wtat your personal story is.

Will write later on about the huge pre-matriculation stuff I am going through.
